Fritz Mitas lives in the Sandy River Gorge in Corbett, Oregon. He has been designing and building furniture and cabinets for 35 years.
His focus is working directly with the customer to design and build pieces specific to the desired function taking into consideration customer aesthetic and setting.
Fritz lives and works on 20 acres where he built a home utilizing maple, fir and alder from the property in cabinets and other architectural details. He is currently focusing on cultivating and utilizing wood grown and milled on his property.
Fritz's completed furniture pieces begin with your design ideas and are then guided by his experience and craft. Elements considered include:
- location
- intended function
- types of wood desired
- budget
The collaboration process is exciting because you'll end up with a piece that reflects your style and space. You can email photos and/or sketches to get the process started and for a cost estimate.
Fritz has been planting and harvesting trees on his forest lands in the hope of building furniture out of a continually renewing resource. Much of his past work has included exotic woods. He is now exploring the potential of Oregon Maple, Douglas Fir, Alder and Cottonwood by experimenting with grain configurations and finishes to enhance the natural beauty of the wood.
Fritz has also worked with local clients who have trees from their own property or yards.
